Incoming Blog Changes

Thursday, February 18th, 2010

Recently, I’ve found so many tutorials on extra ways to tweak WordPress that I’m in the process of creating a new web layout. I’ll be changing the way I blog a bit to accommodate this. The new features I will be including in my next theme are as follows:

I’m changing the format of my 200 Day posts to prepare them for the new theme. I was having a problem with writing enough in each post and trying to keep them interesting. I want to continue writing them so I’m still held responsible, and so anyone can look back, see my progress and know that they can do it too.

I’ll finally be adding my art section. Formatting my art posts specifically to display each piece of art with a description and include w.i.p. scans, if available. Each one will also link to it’s location in my deviantArt gallery.

Guides will be submitted as posts, but will flow much differently, with their special design.

I’m excited. I’ve been drawing it while at school, and so far, I’m liking the way it’s headed. This is going to take a lot of work and attention to detail, but I can’t wait to get started!

The Future is Nearer Than Usual

I have developed a plan for my blog. V-for-Veronica will be updated with 2 new posts each week. The first will be something of genuine interest: guides on cooking/gardening and other experiments or crafty things. The second will contain personal experiences and thoughts worthy of mentioning from that week. In this way, I will not feel the need to rush my guides or personal entries to fit them both into one post. Furthermore, my blog will not feel cluttered or confusing. Users will be able to refer to guides without having to sift through pieces of my daily life, and stalkers will not be bothered with new ways to screw in light bulbs.

On a more personal level, my life is a mess. Organization, time management and self-discipline are traits I was not taught to develop as a child, so now, when I need them the most, I fall short. This week starts my latest and hopefully final attempt to better my life by–basically–growing up. The main areas I will be focusing on are fitness, cleanliness, and productivity.

For fitness, I will be going on daily walks: any time, any place, and at least 15 minutes. Today I worked in a 30 minute walk. Yay me! I’m well on my way to looking much better in my Threadless Tees, and doing so will develop my time management and self-discipline, not to mention the other multitude of benefits of exercise I’ll begin to experience.

When I say cleanliness, I am not meaning the basic things like showering and all that. ^_^ I’m already good with that stuff! The house, kitchen and my room, however, are a different matter. When I lived in an apartment with Sierra, we were able to keep the house clean. Living with my dad and brother is much more difficult because my brother doesn’t clean up after himself, so it makes it harder for me to do so. But that’s no excuse, and one day I’ll have kids of my own, so I need to figure out something that works for me.

Oh, productivity. Procrastination and OSS (“Ooo! Shiney!” Syndrome) are your fiercest enemies. I must stop wasting all my time and actually do something with myself that’s of worth. Art, music, blog posts, social activities, other hobbies: if I can do some of these and more every day I will be much happier with myself.

Land Ho! Almost There.

Sierra and me at AWA 08.

So I’ve been working pretty diligently on this design the last couple days and it’s really starting to pull itself together. Hopefully, I will have this finished before the con. That way when I tell people to go to my website, they might actually have some reason to stay, athough I’ll probably not have gotten any content up… -sigh-

Right now, Ace is looking up silly old songs that he enjoys listening to. He searched and looked and googled everywhere for this song about going around in circles by Soul Coughing. Of course, he didn’t know the band’s name until he found the song.

Don’t you love how “googled” is now a word we all use? I think it’s funny when net lingo breaks away and starts being used in daily conversation. It makes it easier when you can actually do all these things away from a computer, like when I have my iPhone. I can google, tweet, email, and tons of other things even while on the john. ^_^

Bobble Jesus sprouts a sock rainbow during AWA roadtrip.

Oh, goodness. I promise this is only temporary. I am going to be messing with the code and design of my website for the next few days/weeks. I’ve never built a WordPress blog before of any sort, so this will be fun. (Any tips and tricks are much appreciated! I’ve designed the layout in Photoshop, printed a few copies out and scribbled code all over them. Now I’m surfing over the WordPress Codex to learn how everything functions together.

I must say there is a HUGE amount of content, but today I believe I have begun to understand it. I’m grasping concepts and no longer confused when I read about the template tags. In fact, I even added an example of how to use the comments_template() in the wiki! Please take a look and let me know if it’s wrong, but it was simple enough to figure out and I checked with the source file to be sure.

So Tell Me…

I plan to have this part in a custom field in the future, but for now… It would be great if you could comment anything on this post so I can experiment with comments from multiple users. Links welcome. In fact, add anything you think I should be prepared for in a comment! ^_^
