When the cookies begged to be eaten, I found homes for them in the mouths of other people.
If running around all day swinging an 8ft staff and dogging the attacks of my enemies is not a workout, then I have failed. I, however, demand that it be accepted as such, for I am tired.

It’s ab workout day! Bring on the soreness! I’ll take anything to get my mind off my leg soreness from walking yesterday.
My brother made 4 Oreo pies this morning. How mean is that, right? I haven’t eaten any, and I’m bringing over some friends to eat it before it wears me down.
You know what’s delicious? Fresh-squeezed orange and grapefruit juice. I love making this in the morning! Grapefruit is also good for weight loss because it helps your stomach acids to break down the foods you eat, so less is stored as fat. How nice is that?

Recently, I’ve found so many tutorials on extra ways to tweak WordPress that I’m in the process of creating a new web layout. I’ll be changing the way I blog a bit to accommodate this. The new features I will be including in my next theme are as follows:
- Custom templates for posts based on category,
- Separate pages for my blog, art, guides, and 200 day challenge,
- A complete “about me” page,
- Front page with 3 different blog lists: blog, art, and 200 days,
- All posts using the new “post thumbnail” feature in 2.9,
- and maybe some more secrets…
I’m changing the format of my 200 Day posts to prepare them for the new theme. I was having a problem with writing enough in each post and trying to keep them interesting. I want to continue writing them so I’m still held responsible, and so anyone can look back, see my progress and know that they can do it too.
I’ll finally be adding my art section. Formatting my art posts specifically to display each piece of art with a description and include w.i.p. scans, if available. Each one will also link to it’s location in my deviantArt gallery.
Guides will be submitted as posts, but will flow much differently, with their special design.
I’m excited. I’ve been drawing it while at school, and so far, I’m liking the way it’s headed. This is going to take a lot of work and attention to detail, but I can’t wait to get started!

No sugar today, but I had many cravings, probably due to all the extra work I did today. I walked 4 miles and spent 2 hours in the backyard raking and digging my garden pit.

So, yesterday wasn’t very interesting. I followed the rules without much temptation. You see, after I’ve not had sugar from a week, the cravings subside. It’s easier.
Today, I spent a few hours working in the backyard, raking leaves, pulling up grapevines, and cutting down little skinny trees that got in my way. I feel like I didn’t get very much done, even though I’m completely worn out. I need to focus tomorrow and get as much done as possible because the forecast for this weekend is rain, and that’s no bueno. Last weekend I didn’t get anything done because of the snow. I’m running out of time! That will teach me to wait till the last minute to prepare my garden. I should have had this taken care of last fall.
My kitchen floor got special treatment today when I cleaned it using my Kirby vacuum. I love this thing. So easy, and efficient.
Today is ab workout day. I’m going to share with you the simple routine that I’ve been doing so you can try it too. I’ve already started to see results from this, and I’ve only done it every other day for a week.
- 30 crunches with arms crossed over chest
- 30 crunches with arms out straight (like riding a bike)
- 30 crunches with legs to the left *
- 30 crunches with legs to the right *
- 30 full sit-ups
- 30 legs lifts (leg straight out to ground, raise up and down)
* “legs to the left/right” means to be in normal position with legs bent, then rotate your hips and legs so they are still bent, but on their side. Your chest stays normal. This allows you to work your side muscles while still crunching straight up.
I’m going to add more to this and rotate steps next week. However this week, I’m doing it twice (once in the morning, once at night).

In short, all the rules were followed today. I’m proud of myself, and when I finish tomorrow, I’ll be getting my 7 day reward! It’s always best that, when on a diet, you reward yourself with something that is not food. Food should not be the way you pat yourself on the back. There are plenty of other things you can do; for example, go walking somewhere beautiful, buy those shoes you’ve been eyeballing, or have a night out with friends to celebrate while doing something fun. I’m going to do something small for my first reward: paint my nails. I only wish I had longer ones to paint!
Anyways, I spent the evening at GiGi’s house crocheting with her and finished a scarf for a friend from church. It took forever, but is very pretty and soft. I’ll show pictures later. Yesterday, I started working on a gift for my friend Sierra. I can’t tell you what it is, because there’s a chance that she’ll read this. Haha! While at her house, I also made tomato soup from scratch, except I used canned tomatoes because none of the ones in the store are good right now. It was delicious! I’m definitely going to make tomato soup like this from now on. No more canned soup! Well.. maybe sometimes, for the memories and for speed. It takes 5 minuets from a can and about 30 minutes from scratch.
I’m hearing that many of you girlies are on fitness routines too! Let’s encourage one another! We can do this together! I believe in you!

First, I’m going to tell you about the sweetest man I know, my boyfriend. I was hoping that he’d have set up flower delivery to me before he left for Iraq, but there were no flowers at my door today. Instead, in my inbox sat an email–a very, very long email–titled “Happy Valentine’s Day!!!” My eyes began to water as I felt all his emotions wash over me and sink under my skin. I’ve never gotten a letter from someone so clearly devoted to and enthralled by me. I never imagined someone would feel this strongly for me. I am so humbled and blessed to have him. What a marvelous Valentine’s Day.
On the other hand, this day will always hold some sadness for me. A year ago today, I lost my grandfather to a rare cancer. I miss him terribly so, and made sure to wear the necklace he left for me in his honor. My grandfather was a cheerful man who encouraged everyone around him to be their best, put their faults in their past, and move on into a better future. He valued family over everything else, and I will always hold a special place in my heart for our memories together. To you, Grandpa, I do not say good-bye. For you, I say “Goodnight, lovely. Sleep in peace.”
My Progress
This is day 5 of this whole shenanigans, and I am just hanging on. I went on a walk today with Poochie because most of the snow has finally cleared. It’s ab workout day, too. When I make it 21 days without sugar, I’m going to start waking up earlier and take my workouts up a notch. No sugar, again today. Going strong. Two more days and I can paint my nails all pretty!

Wow, only 4 days completed. -sigh- This is gonna take forever. Today we went over to GiGi’s house and passed v-day cards around. Alicia made cupcakes, and GiGi made some delicious looking flour-less chocolate cake. Then Dad started handing out fancy chocolate bars. Oh, how sad and depressing! I kept trying to make excuses for why I should have a piece, but I held strong! I know it will be worth it!
This morning, I woke up late again. Ugh. After I’ve completed 21 days of this, I’m going to start a new habit of waking up early. My head hurt, but it didn’t hurt as much as it felt like I was drunk–only in the head. I had that heavy, can’t focus, slow eye-movement thing going on. I am sure this was caused by lack of hydration. Yesterday, I failed to drink any water at all, so today I drank a swimming pool worth.
Speaking of swimming pools, I could have filled one up with new delicious bookmarks for crochet tutorials, patterns, and other general inspiration. I found sooo many, and I know there’s many more to come, but I ran out of daytime.
I need to do my workout for today and go to sleep. Poochie is snoring, so it must be bedtime.

Okay, so today I struggled a bit less with sugar cravings. Only about five times did I consider eating the vanilla bean ice cream, and when I saw the oatmeal-raisin cookies in the cupboards, I simply closed the door. I cooked corn chowder from scratch for the first time today. It was yummy, but I know it would taste better with Iowa’s fresh, in-season sweet corn. I could eat corn straight off the cob like that all day. I should do some research to find out what fruits and veggies are actually in season at this time of year.
After I write this, I will be doing the ab workout from 2 days ago again. My tummy still hurts from last time, but I gotta keep going! I found a sweet article on Happy News about forming good habits. If you are trying to transform yourself along with me, check it out.
I’m keeping track of my days on my skin and in a weekly calendar, but if you are looking for ideas on how to keep track, try these bookmarks and things on About.com. I just realized that they are in the LDS (Latter-Day Saints) section of the website… I didn’t know they had a whole section for Mormons. About.com really does have everything!
I’ve decided I’m going to reward myself for going 7 days by painting my nails because I found my polish while cleaning my room today. Haha!

Gardening brings out the patience and serenity in a person; that’s why I’m making it one of my top new hobbies this year. I want to learn to design, build and care for a garden until it blooms and gives me veggies to cook with. Last year, I designed a small flower garden around a tree but did not care for it. I wonder if it will bloom again this year or not.
I am a complete beginner in this area of study, but thankfully the internet provides a wealth of information on gardening which I am soaking up with a passion. So far, I’ve learned a great many things about starting my first garden. I’ve found plenty of tips from seasoned gardeners to help make my first experience much more enjoyable. Thanks to my research, I even know when I need to start planting each kind of vegetable according to my climate zone, which is 8a.
The snow this week is keeping me from cleaning up my back yard and digging my garden, but hopefully next week it will go away and I can get started. For now, I’m going to be picking out which veggies I will plant, where I will buy them, and where they will go in my garden.
